Sid Thoo, Architect

Sid ThooSid Thoo RAIA is an architect with a passion for designing more energy efficient and sustainable buildings. He studied architecture at the University of Western Australia and graduated with Honours. He is registered with the Architects' Board of Western Australia.

Sid has taught in the architecture and design streams at a number of universities and colleges, including the University of Western Australia, Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University and Central TAFE, most recently at Murdoch University teaching energy efficient building design. His specialty areas include building information modelling (BIM), energy efficient building design and design communication.

From 2007-2008, he worked for Dr Andrew Marsh of Square One research, producing training materials and resources for ECOTECT and other Square One products. He has also provided consulting services to organisations such as Autodesk Ltd and BHP Billiton.

At the beginning of 2008, Sid co-founded the architecture.collective with architect Patrick Hubble. The firm specializes in eco-effective building design and consulting.

Sid gives regular presentations and training on energy-efficient, eco-effective building design, and is a sought-after public speaker. He has recently presented at the ABSA conference in Melbourne, the BDA conference in the Barossa Valley, and will be presenting a professional development workshop on energy efficient building design for the Australian Institute of Architects in July 2011.

He is an ABSA accredited HERS and home sustainability assessor, and a member of the Australian Institute of Architects. He also serves as the managing director of eTool Pty Ltd, developers of a free on-line tool for life cycle analysis of the built environment, focussed on embodied carbon and energy of the built-form.

Sid regularly contributes to architectural journals on the topics of energy efficient building design, BIM/IPD technology and design communication. He currently lives in Perth with his wife Irina, and their children Daniella and Alexander.
