What a pleasure it was to be invited to speak on the morning show with Chris Ferreira, James Lush and the 720 ABC radio team, who were doing a live to air broadcast from Chris's backyard on Saturday 23rd March. Speaking on radio I felt a whole range of emotions, nervous, excited yet also very relaxed, a credit to James' calm and professional approach.
ARCACTIVE was asked to assist and was well represented over the weekend with four of the team doing morning and afternoon shifts. Chris often called on one of the team to talk about ARCACTIVE and to answer some specific questions. Our 'Sustainable Living Reference Guide' was very popular and we are now following up with the many inquiries, great to see.
On another positive note talking about the media, ARCshelter featured in a double page spread in the new homes lift out in the Weekend West. (see copy of article)
This month I also attended my friend's furniture showroom opening at The Design Collective. I met some amazing national and international manufacturers of office designer furniture and was blown away with how sustainable this section of the industry is. We'll be featuring more on this exciting initiative in a future ARC newsletter.
Thanks to all of you that provide wonderful stories, keep them rolling in.
Till next month,
The ARC Team

Month 9: The Dust Settles
It's nice to be enjoying the house and it's interesting to start adapting how I use the house as the seasons change. It reminds me that it is as much about the embodied design principles as the operational principles, both combined equal a sustainable lifestyle.
This month's projects have seen the completion of the internal green wall planting and the external water pond/cooling unit to the western side of the house. Probably one of the greatest pleasures of the month has been harvesting and enjoying my first food production, eggs for breakfast by Ruth the chook and wonderful greens for lunch and dinner

According to green property index provider IPD the investment market has lost none of its appetite for green property in the wake of the GFC. In fact the financial downturn has, if anything, intensified interest in the value that green performance can bring for a property asset or portfolio.

Heritage and Sustainability
This month's ARCACTIVE Case Study highlights a property in an inner-suburban location that has demonstrated how to successfully retain an existing heritage listed cottage and integrate new additions with a result that is an excellent example of climate responsive and environmental sustainable design.
A survey commissioned by WWF-Australia for Earth Hour, conducted by AMR Research - found that 87% of Australians want more action by all sectors, including government, to make Australia a top-10 global producer of renewable energy.
Where does Australia - with its abundant solar resource and expanses of and suitable for wind farms - rank in the global renewable energy production stakes? The answer: 31st. Surprising? Well, it was to the majority of respondents to a new national survey on renewable energy, two-thirds of whom had assumed their country would be ranked better than that.
